SF Global Shapers hosted Breakthrough Ocean Ventures founder Nishan Degnarain at a ShaperTalk on Monday, 4/22, and we wanted to share key takeaways from the event:
- Daniela Fernandez, the moderator and an SF Shaper, shared a quote from David Attenborough that clearly expressed the urgency of addressing climate change: the next 10 years will shape the fate of the planet.
- Anyone can take action on issues related to climate change. Nishan shared the story of Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old activist who traveled 3 days to Davos by train and confronted CEOs of large corporations on their role in climate change.
- The big ideas that could dramatically help the environment may not have been invented yet. We need to remember that we’re constantly voting with every decision we make, and these decisions directly impact our ability to help the environment.
- Nishan’s book, Soul of the Sea, argues that a healthy ocean is a key part of a healthy society, but the ocean has been deteriorating for the past century. For more information about his book, click here.
